Organization: Assisi Heights Spirituality Center
Rochester, Minnesota
Date: April 29-May 5, 2018

Presenter: Michael W. Blastic, OFM

Michael is a Friar Minor of the Holy Name of Jesus Province, New York, New York. His research and publications focus on the Writings of Francis and Clare of Assisi, the Franciscan Hagiographical Tradition, and the early Franciscan tradition of theology and spirituality.

In his encyclical, The Joy of the Gospel, Pope Francis indicated that, "Loving others is a spiritual force drawing us to union with God . . . When we live out a spirituality of drawing nearer to to others and seeking their welfare, our hearts are opened wide to God's greatest and most beautiful gifts. Whenever we encounter another person in love, we learn something new about God." (Evangelii gaudium 272). Here (and in many other texts of that documents) Pope Francis challenges us Franciscans to be true to our charism as lived and expressed by Francis and Clare of Assisi. This retreat will reflect on how Pope Francis has challenged us to be who we really are by listening and looking anew at Francis and Clare: experts in conversation (encountering another person in love), contemplatives in action (loving others as the way to union with God) and compassionate sisters and brothers (drawing nearer to others and seeking their welfare).

Retreat fee: $450 (Includes meals and lodging).
